| INSECTS & PEPPERMINTS (18"x18") I did this series for a show I had at the Hygienic Art Gallery in New London, CT. I became fascinated by insects after looking at several photography books. I loved how they had these segmented body parts that seemed easy to design in beads. Using a variety of bead stitches, I was able to make components and join them together to create insects. I tried to remain true to the different species and had fun doing so. Because I love "hammy" titles for my work, I incorporated some custom lampwork beads by David Christensen & Kate Fowle-Melaney; hence, "Insects & Peppermints" (like the 60's song Incense & Peppermints). |
